Seat Belts for Forklift - This guideline reason is to be able to describe the Regulation requirements for the use of operator restraints or seatbelts on forklifts. It is the employers' responsibility to make sure that each and every machinery, piece of equipment and tool in the workplace is selected and used correctly and worked according to the manufacturer's directions.
Rough Terrain forklifts must meet the guidelines of ANSI Standard ASME B56.6-1992 in regards to their use, design, maintenance, inspection and fabrication.
Side boom tractors and mobile equipment together with a Rollover Protective Structure, or ROPS for short, should include seat belts which meet the requirements of the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, Standard J386 JUN93, Operator Restraint System for Off-Road Work Machines. If whichever mobile machine has seat belts required by law, the driver and subsequent passengers should ensure they use the belts every time the motor vehicle is in motion or engaged in operation for the reason that this could cause the equipment to become unsteady and thus, unsafe.
If a seat belt or other driver restraint is needed on a forklift.
While operating a lift truck, the seat belt requirements would depend on a number of factors. Contributing factors to this determination might include whether the the lift truck is outfitted together with a Rollover Protective Structure, the kind of forklift itself and the year the forklift was actually made. The manufacturer's instructions and the requirements of the applicable standard are referenced in the Regulation.
Referring to an operator restraint device, system or enclosure, ANSI Standard ASME B56.1-1993 in the case of powered industrial trucks, is intended to be able to help the driver in reducing the possibility of entrapment of the torso and/or head between the truck and the ground in the event of a tip over. The restraint device or system might include a seat belt, though a seat belt is not essentially a part of such machine or system.
